Duties

Help
  • Exercises supervisory responsibility for lower-level professional dental officers and ancillary dental personnel.
  • Plans and assigns work, sets priorities, advises employees on program goals and objectives.
  • Establishes performance plans and evaluates performance of employees.
  • Initiates personnel actions for recruitment, reassignment, promotion, reclassification, etc. Interviews and selects employees for vacant positions.
  • Effects minor disciplinary actions such as reprimands and warnings, recommends other action in more serious cases.
  • Counsels’ employees on work and management policies.
  • Hears and resolves employee complaints and refers more serious grievances to higher authority with recommendations for resolution.
  • Performs corrective and restorative measures on difficult cases, using extensive professional knowledge of dentistry.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge and skill level sufficient to diagnose and treat difficult cases with an understanding.
  • Manages a dentoalveolar surgery practice, which would include exodontia, biopsy of intraoral lesions, pre-prosthetic surgery
  • Performs endodontic procedures to include but not limited to diagnosis of difficult endodontic cases.
  • Performs a full spectrum of complex restorative procedures to include operative dentistry plus fixed.
  • Evaluation and management of oral surgery complications to include treatment of dental infections.
  • Evaluation and retreatment of selected endodontic cases, and management of endodontic complications.
  • Evaluation, treatment, and/or referral of oral and maxillofacial trauma cases
  • Knowledge of the relationships and applications of the basic sciences.
  • Make decisions on work problems presented by subordinate employees.
  • Removable prosthodontic care inclusive of fabrication of complete and partial dentures, crowns, and bridges.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Degree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.) from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA).
  • Applicants must be currently licensed to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
  • Employee must possess and maintain an American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Employee required to travel up to 5% of the time.
  • Pre-employment physical required.
  • Required to be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This is a drug testing designated position.
  • Approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate of training
  • Certified to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to include the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Dentist:

Education: Applicants must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Experience and/or Education Required: A. Applicants must have completed a 3-year residency in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science, AND one year of full-time experience and/or training in professional dentistry work equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12)

.OR B. Applicants must have four years of professional dentistry experience and/or training, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12).

OR. Applicants must have completed a residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science AND professional dentistry experience and/or training equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12). When combining residency program and professional dentistry experience and/or training to qualify, the total must be equal to or greater than four years.

Note for Qualifying Experience: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.

Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
