Duties

Help
  • You will maintain and repair fuel storage and distribution systems, using hand and power tools and testing instruments.
  • You will inspect fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and malfunction of mechanical units, meters, and gauges.
  • You will perform test work on fuel pumping, filtering and hardware systems for RDT and E product tests and examine pumping systems for leaks and repairs.
  • You will receive, store, transfer and issue liquid petroleum fuels, lubes, liquid and waste oils.
  • You will operate and maintain various types of pumps and other equipment used in the receipt and issue of bulk petroleum products.
  • You will inspect receipt of product for quantity and type, water and other visible contamination.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You "may" be coded as "key" and as such may be required to be removed from your military recall status. A signed statement of understanding is required.
  • You must be able to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a valid Class B CDL with Tank and HAZMAT Endorsements at your own time and expense within 90 days of employment.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a WG-4255-10 Fuel Distribution Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision such as:

  • Utilizing mechanical and electro-mechanical principles and a working knowledge of electrical controls and devices to repair and maintain fuel distribution systems and their components to perform work which includes inspecting fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, malfunction of mechanical units, meters, and gauges; Inspecting and troubleshooting electrical wiring, switches, and controls;
  • Troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and replacing defective equipment and components, (e.g., motors, relays, solenoids, switches, safety devices), and other similar devices;
  • Lubricating and repacking valves, pumps; replacing gaskets and seals; correcting misalignment of pumping equipment; disassembling, adjusting, and calibrating meters, and gauges; replacing meters and gauges;
  • Reading and working from blueprints; maintaining records of inspections and repairs; overhauling system components; performing test work on fuel pumping, filtering, and hardware systems; receiving, storing, and transferring liquid petroleum fuels, lubes, liquid and waste oils.
