Duties

Help

Manages the aquatics program with the assistance of the Outdoor Recreation Specialist.. Ensures pool is operational during summer months. Instructs lower graded lifeguards in specific tasks, procedures and techniques. Ensures timely accomplishment of work assignments. Maintains awareness of status and progress and makes day-to-day adjustments based on established priorities. Maintains records of work accomplishments as required by program directives/procedures. Makes available written instructions, materials and supplies. Gives on-the-job training to new employees. Maintains a current knowledge and answers questions of other employees or procedures, policies and directives and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems. Checks on work in progress and reviews completed work to see that supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met. Refers problems or matters not covered by instruction, as well as problems in meeting performance standards to supervisor. Informs other employees of available services and employee activities. Attempts to resolve informal complaints and refers others to
supervisor. Reports to supervisor on employee performance, progress, and training needs and on disciplinary problems. Approves leave. Successfully complies with NAF and Air Force regulations financial regulations. Successfully conducts and documents
weekly safety inspection. Develops and maintains an effective safety training plan for all areas. Conducts swimming lessons and water aerobic lessons if qualified. As required, provides lessons and demonstration of various techniques in prescribed lesson
plan. Observes students and other instructors as they execute techniques and provides assistance/feedback. Coordinates/conducts weekly in-service training. Effectively maintains required lifeguard and instructor qualification and capabilities through out
employment. Continuously and effectively monitors swimming area. Promptly and courteously enforces rules. Reports problems to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Takes immediate and appropriate action in the event of an accident, injury, drowning, or near-drowning. Uses most appropriate technique when rendering aid. Consistently maintains assigned areas in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Basic knowledge of lifesaving, first aid and CPR as would be learned through an approved course leading to certification. Limited
knowledge acquired on the job, of swimming facility rules, work procedures, equipment and materials to perform recurring tasks.
Must possess a current and valid nationally recognized lifeguard certification covering lifesaving and water rescue methods skills
and procedures prior to Memorial Day weekend. Must possess a current and valid nationally recognized basic first aid certification
and CPR certification that includes adult, child and infant procedures prior to Memorial Day weekend. Must possess a current and valid nationally recognized water safety instructor certification by Memorial Day weekend.
