Duties

Help

As a PHYSICAL SECURITY SPECIALIST (Title 32) with the Texas Air National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Responsible for the management and administration of theIntrusion Detection System (IDS) program. Advises the MAJCOM SF IDS program manager of any base or site activities that will impact theIntegrated Base Defense Security Systems (IBDSS) program. This includes, but is not limited to, mission changes resulting in increase or decrease of resources, reconfiguration of resource areas, and construction of facilities on or in the vicinity of current and planned sensor locations. Reports and documents all IDS maintenance requirements to the servicing maintenance organization. Monitors IDS false and nuisance alarms and, when necessary, requests assistance from the maintenance organization to resolve problems and deficiency. Coordinates with maintenance and materiel management functions to ensure sufficient spare parts and maintenance are available to support the IBDSS equipment and component.
  • Maintains Technical Orders and commercial manuals that describe equipment components and operating procedures for IDS in use. Develops local training for system operators. Assists the standardization and evaluation section in developing certification standards for system operators.
  • Responsible for the management and administration of the physical access control systems (i.e. Defense Biometrics Identification System - DBIDS). Manages entry control point (ECP) related applications associated with DBIDS and the Security Forces Information Management System (SFMIS). Manages the functional and operational sustainment of all data processing programs such as DBIDS, SFMIS, and other systems installed and/or programmed for the ECP. Produces and maintains and related reports for command echelon personnel. Provides feedback to supervisor regarding identified or perceived base access vulnerabilities with recommendations for their mitigation. Reviews the operational status of sensor subsystems ensuring all required testing procedures are followed. Researches, interprets, and analyzes guidelines to ensure all work complies with legal and regulatory requirements. Performs additional related duties as required or directed. Develops goals and objectives that integrate organization and squadron objectives.
  • Performs administrative office support functions and develops, coordinates, and publishes all SF installation level publications to include the Installation Security Plan, the Installation Security Instruction, and SF annexes to all installation plans.
  • Performs installation security duties. Leads and manages SF programs designed to provide a secure mission environment. Establishes requirements for police services, physical security,and Anti-Terrorism programs. Establishes liaison between SF and civilian law enforcement agencies.
  • Manages police services. Develops and writes localized SF policies and procedures. Manages installation entry control, visitor center operations, and special functions/events. Administers and manages Resource Protection and Crime Prevention programs.
  • Manages Security Forces Management Information System (SFMIS).
  • Performs and enforces the full range of SF duties within the military installation. Apprehend and detain violators of laws, rules, and regulations and turn them over to the Federal or civil police or other law enforcement officers for arrest and posting of collateral.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Air National Guard (TXANG) and wear of the military uniform.

Areas of Consideration: In-state. This includes:

  • All current members of the Texas National Guard and individuals eligible for membership in the Texas Air National Guard.

Qualifications

To be considered for qualification, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting the following:

Specialized Experience:

To qualify at the GS-09 grade level your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment experience reflecting24 months experience, education, or training in planning, directing, coordinating, and controlling installation and law enforcement activities. AND Experience providing training in areas related to this position and analyzing reports of investigations and maintaining security records. AND Knowledge of DoD and AF security regulations, instructions, practices, principles, and procedures including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism, and physical security. Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of program related issues and problems. Knowledge of safety, security, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of police dispatch and alarm monitor functions. Knowledge of AF Electronic Security Sensor systems. Knowledge of the AF Incident Management System and the Security Force Management Information System. Ability to plan, organize, function in performance of primary duties. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing. Knowledge and understanding of Air Force (AF), National Guard, and gaining command organizational structure, missions and responsibilities. Knowledge of SF procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of SF activities independently to include protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response, and dispatch.

A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

A combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience that may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

  • Upon selection, this position will require the completion of AF Instructor Methodology Course or other approved principle of instruction course approved by functional manager.
  • Incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position may be designated mission essential based on local conditions. Mission essential personnel report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting, and remain on duty during phased or early release.
  • The incumbent may be required to travel in military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear special protective clothing such as coats, boots, vests, gas masks, helmets, body armor, hearing protection, etc. Incumbent may be exposed to high levels of noise such as aircraft engines.
