Duties

Help

Major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Operates all vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to approximately 26,000 lbs. in order to carry out all the functions of EMS.
  • Transports linen, uniforms, patient clothes and supplies essential to the operation at the FHCC.
  • Operates gasoline and diesel powered vehicles with heavy loads and is required to load and unload vehicles.
  • Performs routine driver's maintenance on vehicle in operation.
  • Responsible for dispatching of General Services Administration vehicles, coordinating needed maintenance and repairs, keeping vehicles clean.
  • Responsible for proper cargo load placement and cargo binding. Assures cargo does not overload axle weights and does not shift, spill, or break loose.
  • Completes all maintenance service records to document activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The daily duties performed by incumbent consist of climbing in and out of vehicles, moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on or in to load or tie down cargo. Incumbent works in all weather conditions, pushing and pulling laundry carts and supplies; climbing steps, etc. Incumbent must be physically sound and have good coordination of eyes, hands, feet, and vision and depth perception. Incumbent must be mentally alert to traffic hazards and dangers.

Work Conditions: Operates vehicles in all types of weather and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Incumbent may be exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle. Incumbent performs any other duties properly assigned. Incumbent may be required to work in the laundry due to breakdowns and/or shortage of staff.
