Help
  • Leads three or more workers to accomplish trades and labor work. Passes instructions on to other workers. Ensures that needed tools and materials are available. Sees that all workers have enough work.
  • The non-lead duties include stock selection, stow, research, location survey, physical inventory, material handling, material examining and identifying, packing, and operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
  • Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments. Checks accompanying documentation against container or packing labels. Follows established procedures in reporting over, short, misdirected, or damaged materials.
  • Packs and/or preserves a variety of items. Determines the materials, containers, devices and/or preservatives needed.
  • Assembles items for shipment in the loading area according to information provided on the shipping requests and checks the condition of shipping containers prior to loading. Ensures shipments are properly loaded onto the right conveyances.
  • Counts types and quantities of items during inventories, and maintains tally listings during the count. Recounts or searches other storage locations to assist in determining the basis for over, short, or misplaced items.
  • Operates one or more types of material handling equipment such as standard type forklift with a lifting capacity of up to 15,000 pounds, warehouse tractor, or general-purpose vehicle.
  • Checks work in progress and completed work for compliance. Answers workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and directions. Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Distribution Process Worker Leader, WL-6901-06, your qualifications must include:
Per OPM's Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, the applicant's experience, education and training must show enough knowledge, skills and abilities to demonstrate the potential to successfully perform the duties of the position. Under this system, how applicants gained their skill and knowledge, or the length of time they have spent in a line of work, are not as important as the fact that they have the required ability or potential to do the job.

The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:

  • I instruct other workers on less complex work methods; refer to manuals as a means in answering questions i related to the proper identification and examination of materials; adhere to all safety standards.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort:
Work requires standing on hard surfaces maintaining balance for extended periods of time. Requires pushing, pulling and depressing various hand and foot controls which require bending, stooping, reaching, and twisting in tiring and uncomfortable positions, many times all at the same time. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds; may lift greater weights with assistance.


Working Conditions:
Work is performed within a warehousing environment. Work is usually performed inside. Poor lighting conditions may exist in some areas. Occasionally required to work outdoors to move items between warehouses in areas that are hot, cold, drafty or damp. When working outdoors, the employee is subject to prevailing weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, and rain. Some exposure to dust, grease, dirt, solvents, and fumes. There are some risks involved with handling and processing of hazardous material. Individual is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and abrasions. Working conditions are a normal part of the job and are considered in the evaluation of the position. Works on hard surfaces and regularly requires
standing, stooping, bending, reaching, stretching, pushing and pulling. Work is performed at a relatively steady pace with an occasional requirement encountered to work rapidly to meet specific deadlines.
