Help

The Chiropractor position serves as a Staff Chiropractor within the Specialty Service. The duties in this position will include but not limited to:

  • The Chiropractor is responsible for seeing patients in consultation in outpatient settings. Patients seen in the Chiropractor Clinic are evaluated and treated by the Chiropractor. Other duties include responding to patient telephone calls, informing patients of test results, giving telephone or e-mail advice to other providers, and administrative duties, if any.
  • There are no on-call responsibilities.
  • The incumbent is responsible for entering accurate, complete, timely progress notes for each episode of care in the patient's electronic record. This is accomplished by utilizing the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
  • The incumbent is responsible for the proper use, maintenance, and calibration of specialized equipment used in the assessment and care of patients.
  • The incumbent adheres to safety, health, and infection control standards, regulations and work practices, as well as ergonomic standards. He/she reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor and/or appropriate officials.
  • The incumbent assists in orientation of new staff, and will provide patient and family education, including informed consent.
  • The incumbent maintains supplies, equipment and clinical areas to optimize safety and efficiency.
  • He/she demonstrates knowledge and maintains standards in the use and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).
  • The Chiropractor is expected to participate in performance improvement activities, disaster preparedness, administrative duties, and other responsibilities assigned by the Medical Service.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of chiropractic or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in chiropractic. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Approved schools are:
  • (1) United States schools or colleges of chiropractic listed as accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, at http://www.cce-usa.org/, or equivalent agency, in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • (2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
Grade Determination:

Associate Grade (VP-0601-11). None beyond basic requirements.

Full Grade (VP-0601-12). Two years of full-time chiropractic practice or its equivalent. One year of full-time post-graduate residency specialty training from a chiropractic school or college accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, or equivalent agency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, is acceptable in lieu of the 2 years of practice. Candidate must have demonstrated the professional competence and performance necessary to provide independently the full range of clinical diagnosis and chiropractic treatment for the most prevalent neuro-musculoskeletal conditions including subluxation complex.

References: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-16 Doctor of Chiropractor Qualification Standard. The full performance level of this vacancy is VP-12.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; Moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Standing (4 hours); Repeated bending (1-2 hours); Both legs required; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"to Jaegar 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Hearing (aid permitted); Mental and emotional stability.
