Duties

Help
  • Oversee approximately seven medical departments, supervising approximately 14 clinical administrative personnel.
  • Perform comprehensive administrative support to clinical departments with emphasis on patient administration, referral management and clinical practice management.
  • Work with department chiefs to prepare and guide planning for department strategic and business plans by monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of both.
  • Monitor and review department operations to enhance efficient utilization of resources and establish and implement administrative functions for supported clinical departments.
  • Provide oversight for department operating budgets and business plans.
  • Manage the clinic budget and develop requirements based on the Commander’s priority, to increase access, delivery and coordination of health care.
  • Conduct trend analyses to provide early warning on financial problem areas, to compile, interpret and communicate financial information to various audiences.
  • Working knowledge of current electronic health record, such as MHS Genesis, and training requirements for clinical personnel to participate in information system needs analysis for supported departments.
  • Assist department staff in resolving issues and implementing solutions to various problems through automation and data processing.
  • Monitor and evaluate condition of facilities in clinical departments to make recommendations for improvement, repairs, renovations, reconditioning or replacement of same.
  • Keep abreast of current health care management practices and assist clinical departments in preparation for surveys and inspections.
  • Directly supervise Medical Support Assistant staff, developing performance standards, recommend on-the-job training, career development, and professional enrichment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and / or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing various healthcare systems to monitor the healthcare delivery processes within a medical treatment facility (MTF); analyzing healthcare data to identify concerns with the healthcare processes; Identifying and recommending solutions to improve the healthcare delivery processes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in Hospital administration, Public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
