Help

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Install, modify and repair new and existing utility, plumbing supply and disposal systems and equipment.
  • Work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall and proper operation of systems and equipment.
  • Install, modify, and repair systems by locating and tapping main lines, setting up system routes, placing and cutting route openings, placing hangers for proper level and slope, and determining and installing valves, traps, and unions needed for proper operation of systems.
  • Route and place plumbing systems leading to the equipment, and hooking up testing equipment to conduct tests and repairs on backflow preventers systems.
  • Preventive maintenance of domestic hot and cold-water systems in patient care areas for the control and prevention of the Legionella organism and scald prevention.
  • Assess risk, monitor water quality and implement appropriate engineering controls to limit the growth of the Legionella organism.
  • Sample, flush, monitor, log, and upkeep with documentation and record-keeping for Monthly Water Quality Reports to the facility Water Safety Committee.
Preferred Experience: The plumbing position requires a minimum of at least 4 years practical journeyman experience working with commercial plumbing systems to include working with mixing valves, bathroom fixtures, copper pipe and cast-iron piping systems. The incumbent should have applied experience in brazing and soldering copper pipe in confined spaces and have extensive experience with water testing, current plumbing code, utilizing plumbing equipment to include augers, snaking and jetting machines. Incumbent is required to be able to lift-up to 50 lbs. and is required to have a current Arizona State backflow preventer testing certifications or obtain within six months employment.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and hard to reach places. This requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for prolonged periods of time. Incumbent is required to lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: The work is usually performed both inside and outside and are usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Incumbent is sometimes required to work outside in harsh weather. The incumbent performs duties under all types of working conditions, such as climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and working from heights. This is often done in extremes of temperature, such as heat atop boilers or in cold refrigerated walk-in boxes. Occasionally, incumbent must make repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes, noxious gases are present; and is occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones; and frequently exposed to the possibility of scrapes, burns and infection.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
