About the Position: Perform patient care as directed by Womack Army Medical Center and clinic regulations, policies and procedures within the scope of practice of a Medical Assistant in any of several Primary Care areas to include, Family Medicine Clinic, Community Based Medical Homes (CBMH) and Soldier Care Medical Homes, Army Health Clinics and Troop

Medical Clinics. Work schedule: First shift. Will work occasional weekends, not typically holidays.

Duties

Help
  • Complete screening of patient for Privilege Provider to include recording chief complaint, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, and weight.
  • Document in Military Health System (MHS) Genesis and other required databases.
  • Instruct patients and families on various subjects in accordance with established protocols.
  • Apply and remove bandages, binders, simple dressings, and hot and cold packs.
  • Perform general maintenance duties including cleaning and arranging supply carts, cleaning and sorting supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Restock supplies necessary to conduct patient care and clinic operations.

  • This position requires successful completion of pre-placement and annual medical examinations.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • This position requires Hepatitis vaccination.
  • This position requires tuberculosis testing.
  • This position is a weather essential position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes recording blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, and weight; and/or performing clerical duties such as assisting with patient inquiries or preparing paperwork for laboratory work within a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, phlebotomy, chemistry, microbiology, and hematology.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
