MAJOR DUTIES:

Operates a small full-service bar, mixing and serving the full range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Record sales, make changes, or prepare charge slips in accordance with operating procedures. Stocks bar, keeps bar, utensils, equipment, and work area clean and sanitary. Keeps records of quantities of beverages dispensed and submits requirements for re-stocking to the supervisor. Receives and checks the quantity and description of stock. Uses tact and courtesy to deny further sales to persons whose conduct has become unruly or who appear intoxicated.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Skill in mixing drinks. Applies simple arithmetic in calculating bills and making change. Ability to recognize intoxicated and unruly patrons and take necessary remedial action. Skill in recognizing impending shortages of inventory.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Work is performed without close supervision. Responsible for the overall operation of the bar. Accountable for receipts and inventory.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Regularly lifts and carries items weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds. Stands for prolonged periods.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is primarily indoors. Exposed to cuts and bruises.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Satisfactory completion of pre-employment check in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-13, i. is required.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant must have nine (9) months of experience or training in bartending related to the duties described. In addition, applicants must meet the following.

  1. Must meet state/local age requirements for the serving of alcoholic at the time of appointment.
  2. Be able to lift and carry weights up to 40 pounds.
  3. Possess math skills necessary to calculate patron bills and take inventory.
  4. Skill in mixing and serving alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages.
  5. Ability to monitor and direct the work of other bar staff.

Education

Graduate of High School or equivalent. Applicants must also have one year of post-high school experience in the service industry or one year of post-high school education.

Additional information

This is a limited tenure position not to exceed 15 months. It is an unaccompanied program because we cannot provide logistical support to family members. Dorm-style housing is provided in lieu of a living quarters allowance. Transportation to and from Germany is provided in accordance with the terms of the Joint Travel Regulation and the executed transportation agreement. Military spouses and family members currently residing within the Garmisch Military Community who apply under this announcement will be considered for a regular appointment.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • All Federal NAF employees are required by PL 104-134 to have salary payments made by electronic funds transfer/direct deposit.
  • A probationary period may be required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from hiring preferences and priority consideration eligibility.
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the government's interest.
  • LQA is not authorized.
  • This is a Nonappropriated Fund (NAF) position carrying out Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) activities for the Army.
