Duties

Help
  • Planning, diagnosing, trouble shooting, and repairing electronic circuits and component systems.
  • Installing, modifying, repairing, maintaining, testing and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures.
  • Planning, designing, and fabricating electrical components within design parameters to ensure proper and safe operations.
  • Systematically analyzing automated equipment malfunctions, devising repair procedures.

  • Working Conditions- Duties are mainly performed indoors but may involve exposure to cold temperatures during the performance of duties. Work may be performed where there is loud noise. Work is performed in proximity of moving mechanical parts.
  • Working Conditions- The incumbent may also be exposed to fumes or odors, dirt, dust and grease, etc.
  • A physical examination is required
  • A strength test is required

Qualifications

To qualify for the Electrician, KE -2805-00, you must meet the following screen-out element:

Ability to do the work of an Electrician, KE-2805-00 without more than normal supervision. Typical duties include: possessing skill in troubleshooting and repairing equipment, in industrial, institutional, or commercial settings, as well as providing the full range of electrical support in the areas of installation, diagnosis, repairing of electrical wiring, pulling of wires, and all other preventative maintenance.

In addition to the above SCREENOUT: GPO applicants must have the following pursuant to GPO MPP Appendix A:
(1) completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacant position.
(2) at least 1 year of journeyperson experience after completion of the above.
(3) served a minimum of 1 year in a career or career-conditional appointment in the GPO; OR (1) a baccalaureate degree or 3 years of responsible experience in the printing industry equivalent to, at a minimum, the GPO journeyperson level. (2) 2 years of experience in the printing industry of a scope and quality sufficient to carry out the duties of the vacant position, 1 year of which must have been at or comparable to the GS-12 level. (3) served a minimum of 1 year in a career or career-conditional appointment in the GPO."

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement(04/24/2025) to be considered.

Education

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Background Investigation:

For a Suitability:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.

The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.

Schedule A (Disability Appointment):

***The selectee will work 1st or 3rd shifts: Shift 1: 6:30am to 3:00pm - 8 hour days OR Shift 3: 10:45pm to 6:45PM- 8 hour days, individuals selected on shift 3 receive an additional 10% night shift differential
