You will be directly or through a leader supervising a group of employees who perform all kinds of trade tasks involved in the construction, repairing or renovating a wide variety of types and sizes of marine craft and vessels and in connection with miscellaneous manufacturing and (on occasion), performing some facility type of work in yard buildings. Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties includes:
Studying and developing plans, specifications, sketches, schedules and job orders.
Conducting inspection of shop equipment, and vessels upon arrival.
Planning the overall sequence of work including complex or critical phases of the work and developing the best methods or procedure to be followed.
Taking appropriate action to overcome bottlenecks, delays and inefficiencies.
Performing supervisory administrative duties, which includes OWCP reports, travel arrangements, travel claim reviews and safety mishap reports etc.
Carrying out policies to achievement management objectives of labor relations, safety and health, environment regulations, Total Quality Management/ISO 9001 and Awards Programs.
Maintaining daily records that show individual subordinates time spent on various jobs and reports this information for time keeping and cost purposes.
