This position is open to current members of the Oklahoma Army National Guard within the military grades of E-5 through E-7.

Duties

Help

This position is located in the State Area Command (STARC) Headquarters, Information Management Office. The purpose of this position is to maintain the computer systems supported by the office.

DUTIES:
Installs, inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs the computer systems supported by the office. Such equipment includes micro-computers (laptops and desk-top processors), plotters, and related peripherals. Peripherals include printers, monitors, terminals, tape drives, scanners, auxiliary power packs, cables, keyboards, etc. Schedules and conducts preventative and periodic maintenance. Evaluates and makes recommendations concerning the maintainability of proposed system hardware for possible procurement. Surveys sites for new systems and coordinates installation of necessary telephone and cable lines to permit proper installation. Modifies existing systems to permit the installation of memory and program upgrades. Determines whether equipment may be economically repaired or declared unserviceable. Makes final operational test alignment, system synchronization and adjustment prior to release of equipment. Coordinates with manufacturers on repairs when economically or technically warranted. Provides new equipment users with general operational instruction.

Maintains bench stock to include repair parts such as replacement boards, chips, cables, etc. Utilizes various types of test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, voltmeters, and logic probes. Also uses special and common hand tools, power tools, and gauges to make repairs. Orders test equipment and repair parts. Maintains library of repair manuals, schematics, and related reference materials as well as the maintenance and repair logs for equipment.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must possess a Secret security clearance to permit access to secure areas. Some work situations may require Top Secret.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E5 through E7

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's knowledge of electrical or electronic theory, knowledge of common testing procedures, skill in the use of hand tools of the electronics trade, and skill in reading schematics.


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic digital computers. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.

Knowledge of digital computer theory and data flow techniques. Knowledge of the principles of electrical and electronic functions as apply to computers and related peripherals. Must be sufficiently knowledgeable of computer systems to permit assessment of the success of integration between components.

Ability to utilize a variety of diagnostic test programs and electronic test equipment such as digital voltmeters and dual-sweep oscilloscopes.

Skill is needed in repairing malfunctions, in diagnosing problems and determining corrective action, applying knowledge of the circuits to locate points to take readings, analyzing schematic layouts to determine which components are faulty, and using the necessary test equipment and tools.

Education

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.
