This announcement is open to current, permanent VHA employees only. Applicants must include their most recent, non-award SF50 to be considered for the position.
Portland is a port city in the Pacific Northwest and the most populous city in the state of Oregon. Situated in the northwestern area of the state at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. Portland is known for having the amenities of a major city (such as an international airport, an efficient public transit system, major league sports teams and many museums and art galleries) and the charms of a small city (such as plentiful arts and crafts fairs, independent bookstores and local traditions like the annual Rose Festival Parade). Rain or shine, you can take advantage of the city's proximity to nature by playing in the Willamette River, wandering through lush public parks and gardens, biking the city's 162 miles (261 km) of bike lanes and hiking trails both within city limits and in the nearby Columbia River Gorge.
The duties are responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Responsible for participating in and/or managing all aspects of a hospital-based dental practice, to include clinical, administrative, academic and research components.
Provides overarching management of patient dental care with staffing, which includes staff providers and specialists, consultant and attendings, contracted providers and trainees.
Coordinates trainee academic and clinical activities with participating regulatory and partner entities including the Office of Academic Affiliations, OHSU School of Dentistry, Council on Dental Accreditation and the American Dental Association.
Manages dental care for Veterans that are eligible for care in the community.

Dentist Basic Requirements
A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~
Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Additional Requirement:
At least 5 years of supervisory and administrative experience in a large (>25 staff) VA hospital based dental service is preferred.
Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds); straight pulling and pushing (2 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (1 hour); Standing (up to 6 hours); Kneeling (1 hour); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable to 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Both eyes required; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors; Hearing aid may be permitted; Emotional and mental stability; critical thinking skills; reaching and twisting; full dexterity of wrists, both arms and hands/fingers; ability to work independently.
Environmental Factors: Unusual fatigue factors (back, neck, arms, hands, and fingers); Vibration; Working closely with others; Aerosols; Flame; Solvent fumes; and bodily fluids.
