This position combines two important functions within the Engineering Service; a Materials Handler and a commercial vehicle driver. Serves as the senior materials handler with in-depth knowledge of material handling, movement, and storage. Responsible for receipt/ storage of office furniture, doors/frames, steel studs, and other supplies. Also transports patients (including wheelchair patients) between medical centers and specials events; and fills in as needed as a driver in the Motor pool.

Assists the supervisor in developing plans for storage and arrangement of stock in accordance with agency regulations which determine the configuration setup, movement, rearrangement and traffic flow.
Has responsibility for the storage and space utilization in accordance with agency regulations for a specific commodity or equipment group such as general supplies, construction materials, high value items, or electronic systems, and work on his/her own initiative to consolidate materials, and provide maximum, space utilization and protection of materials.
Determines organization and arrangement of engineering stock and identifies high and low usage items according to agency regulations and procedures.
Coordinates incoming and outgoing shipments and placement of materials within the docking area and scheduling personnel to facilitate movement of materials in accordance with priorities, scheduling requirements, and space allocations.
Operates forklifts dependent on the method of shipment (i.e. crates or large boxes).
Operates pallet jacks or other material handling methods to safely move large items.
Operates wheelchair vans that accommodate up to eight wheelchairs or 30 passengers with a gross vehicle weight over 10,000 pounds, but not to exceed 26,000 pounds, on a regular and recurring basis to transport patients between medical centers and special events within the surrounding areas. Some of these vehicles may be equipped with air brakes.
Operates vehicles over Federal, state and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions.
Assists veterans in and out of the vehicle, observing necessary safety and lifting techniques as appropriate.
Ensures the safety and comfort of the veterans during the time the veterans is enroute to destination and/or return to origination point.
Responsible for taking vehicle for routine maintenance and/or repairs as necessary.
Will occasionally be called on to operate sedans, pickup including crew cabs, and 4x4 vehicles during inclement weather.
Performs other directly related duties as assigned.
**Must hold and maintain a current Commercial Drivers License (CDL). This is a condition of employment**
