Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy (rTMS) is a treatment administering alternating magnetic fields through the scalp to induce small electrical currents in the brain. It is primarily used for the treatment of adult patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder. The primary responsibility of the rTMS RN is to provide rTMS treatment and coordination of the mental health patients' care during therapy. The trained rTMS RN performing treatment of mental disorders shall do so under the supervision of an appropriately trained and licensed psychiatrist.
The rTMS RN will have the oversight of the patient's journey through the rTMS treatment continuum, ensuring that all steps in the process are scheduled, timely and completed, while tracking the patient's overall rTMS treatment plan.
The purpose of this work is to provide precise measurements and astute observations to rTMS Attending Providers (psychiatrist) practicing at an advanced specialty level. The rTMS RN possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their demographical, physical, mental and social needs, providing care as considered necessary. The rTMS RN is expected to be an innovator over the long run as well, suggesting procedural changes and strategic moves based on acquired knowledge and trends procedures for patient needs and their likely effect upon the results.
The rTMS RN will be able to prioritize responsibilities and ensure that appropriate plans of care implemented according to the standards of regulatory agencies, such as JCAHO, OSHA and other appropriate professional nursing organizations. The rTMS RN will collaborate with other professionals at all levels including but not limited to: social workers, pharmacists, radiology staff, laboratory and other nurses and physicians on various clinical teams.
The rTMS RN will be trained in all other areas of Outpatient Mental Health to provide cross-coverage if needed.
