The Wilmington, NC VA HCC has an opening for a Lead Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing.) The Lead MST is at the advanced performance level and will have knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Equipment. The MSTs main responsibility is the prevention of infections by sterilizing, cleaning, processing, assembling, storing, and distributing medical supplies in a health care facility by using their knowledge on the principles of sterilization and sterile processing.

This position is open only to current, permanent employees of the VA Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network - VISN 6 and those CTAP/ICTAP/RPL eligible.
The Lead MST works in support of the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) management team. The Lead MST will have a clear understanding of the importance of reprocessing RME according to the manufacturer's instructions for use (IFU) and the significant impact on the Veteran population through risk of infectious disease.
The incumbent will be required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which documents the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate for this position using sterilization methods such as but not limited to Steam, Sterrad, High-Level Disinfection (Cidex OPA) or an Automatic Endoscope Reprocessor (AER), for heat sensitive instruments, equipment, or flexible endoscopes.
The MST embraces patient-family centered care principles. The incumbent practices excellent customer service in all work activities. The MST must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethnic backgrounds. The MST makes caring for the veteran his/her priority in all aspects of work. The MST is willing to work cooperatively as a member of a team in all assignments.
