Help
  • Developing and updating security standards and policies for systems analysis, programming, maintenance, documentation, training, risk assessments, reviews, and contingency planning.
  • Evaluating proposed systems, networks, and software designs for security risks, recommends mitigation strategies, and resolving integration challenges during system implementation within the existing infrastructure.
  • Conducting risk assessments and researching security threats, vulnerabilities, and control techniques across various platforms, including networks, VPNs, remote access services, voice systems, and wireless networks.
  • Reviewing and evaluating operating programs, practices, procedures and utilization of IT personnel, equipment, and telecommunications on an agency- wide basis.
  • Performing Risk Management Framework duties to include those of Information System Security Officer (ISSO)/Information System Security Manager (ISSM)

Information Technology (IT) Management Series, 2210

This position has an Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR):
For PG 12/GS-12 and above: Applicants must possess: "Experience that demonstrated accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a wide range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled. This knowledge is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant analyzed a number of alternative approaches in the process of advising management concerning major aspects of ADP system design, such as what system interrelationships must be considered, or what operating mode, system software, and/or equipment configuration is most appropriate for a given project.

In addition to the IOR above, applicants must meet the following specialized experience:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-12 grade level in the Federal Service that includes:
1) Developing; and providing technical implementation and review of information security policies to ensure appropriate cybersecurity policy development, and network security such as Zero Trust architecture design are implemented, tested and maintained across various computer network platforms; 2) Utilizing risk management principles to perform risk analysis; and communicating security plan vulnerabilities, and 3) Evaluating and applying information assurance regulations, policies, and procedures to analyze and identify deficiencies in computer systems ability to safeguard classified data and information.

To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
