Help
  • Works closely with Shop Forepersons and Facility Craft Supervisors to ensure that Production Support is outstanding, andthat Facilities Management’s mission is met.
  • Assists the Work Leaders in requisitioning necessary repair parts, tools, materials, supplies, and equipment used.
  • Manufactures complex and non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals,metal alloys, and other materials.
  • Performs machining operations on computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools including shop floor programming.
  • Troubleshoots independently on a wide range of machines and determine repair processes in conjunction with appropriateengineering and/or other technical authority at various locations.

  • Physical Efforts: the work is sometimes sedentary but prolonged walking or standing may be required. Head, ear, eyes and foot protection are provided as necessary.
  • Working conditions: some duties are performed in an office setting; however, incumbent will be required to perform work where exposed to noise, ink mist, odors/fumes, spray powder and dust from machinery and maintenance repair areas.

To qualify for the Foreperson, you must meet the following requirements:

Applicants must meet the following Screen Out-Element #73 to be considered for this position.Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will not receive further consideration.

The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to Lead or Supervise as a Machinist Leader. The duties required are listed above. In addition to the requirements above applicants must have: 1. Prior experience in dealing with unions (related to the trades) for a large organization supervising at least 20-30 employees. 2. Basic theoretical knowledge of operation, capabilities, and limitations of electronic control equipment (Programmable Logic Controllers) and systems as well as skill in applying this knowledge to understand new or extensively modified systems to improvise alignment, repair, and operating procedures that will be efficient, complete, and compatible with available resources. 3. Must have second level supervisory experience and decision authority as evidenced by SF50 or equivalent. This is not a job for a first time supervisor. The incumbent directs, organizes, and assigns work to the Facility Craft Supervisor, Machine Shop, Work Leaders,Machinists, Electricians, and the employees who support the Die Knives sharpening operation.

Background Investigation:
For a Secret Clearance:To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Secret clearance. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Secret clearance. The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
