1. Interprets general and specialty radiological examinations (plain film, CT, CTA, US, NM, MRI, IR, and DEXA etc.) as provided and privileged. Demonstrates knowledge of contrast agents used during invasive procedures involving IR, MRI, CT, and NM, including appropriate administration, contra-indications, and potential complications. Notifies the referring physician of renal impaired patients prior to start of procedure and recommendations for using or not using contrast materials for the ordered procedure.
2. Performs ultrasound examinations of the internal organs, thyroid, scrotum, etc., and vascular exams such as carotids, as trained and privileged.
3. Performs fluoroscopic examinations (contrast and non-contrast) with the assistance of registered technologist. Assists other providers in performance of specialized examinations when requested.
4. Interprets Nuclear Medicine studies such as bone scan, HIDA, MUGA, thyroid, etc., and possibly cardiac as privileged
5. Participates in and supports performance improvement activities, including, but not limited to, quality assurance, external review programs, internal peer review programs, and accreditation requirements.
6. Uses Power-Scribe voice recognition dictation system and ensures timely and consistent imaging reporting and record keeping. Provides accurate, concise, timely documentation of care in the electronic medical record (Computerized Patient Record System -CPRS) on each patient care occurrence. Interpretation and dictation of reports must be completed using Power-Scribe voice recognition system for dictation and in the required VAMC format. Verification of all reports must be completed within 48 hours. Provides necessary notification of critical results to attending clinicians, ER services, etc. by dictation code and/or phone call, which requires documentation within the report of who was contacted and what time the case was discussed.
7. Assist's the technologists with protocols for each exam, troubleshooting of radiology & PACS equipment, and provide the technologists with a list of materials needed for various patient exams or procedures.
8. Ensures communication for direct patient care is accomplished among imaging staff and providers. Acts as a resource and a consultant to referring physicians and other VA staff while acting as a surrogate for the Imaging Services Department. Assists in monitoring exposure, ensuring ALARA guidelines followed.
9. Retrieve medical data including laboratory values, medications, radiology reports and other patient test results. Retrieve physician orders and/or contacts referring HCP for exam clarification.
10. Acts as a preceptor and teacher for medical student and resident teacher and assists in the orientation process of other staff as assigned, which includes new residents, fellows, and may include employees and students rotating through the department. Participates in departmental and hospital in servicing programs as assigned.

The Hershel "Woody" Williams VAMC is a fully accredited 80-bed acute medical and surgical care facility, offering primary care, outpatient mental health services, and subspecialty outpatient care. VA staffed community-based outpatient clinics are in Charleston, West Virginia, and Prestonsburg, Kentucky. In addition, outreach clinics are in Gallipolis, Ohio and Lenore, West Virginia. This Medical Center is the principal teaching facility for the Marshall University School of Medicine for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
The VAMC has a mental health complex on the facility's campus, including an Outpatient Mental Health Clinic and a Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC). The VAMC also offers services to homeless Veterans through the Community Resource and Referral Center located in downtown Huntington, near community resources. A standalone Women's Health Clinic on campus provides comprehensive health care services to our female patients. Extensive use of community resources, as well as contract community nursing homes for post-hospitalization care, complement our Medical Center's treatment programs.
