This position is under the Division of Facility Management and is a working member of crews performing trail and building maintenance and construction work on historic and non-historic assets. During the summer months (April-October) employees will be working outside performing trail maintenance and construction duties including: clearing trees, cleaning drains, re-establishing trail tread, building dry stone masonry walls, steps, causeways, and steel and native wood stringer bridges. Employees will camp and work out of backcountry camps for a portion of each summer. During the winter months (November-April) employees will perform maintenance and rehabilitation duties on buildings including: carpentry and log work, dry wall, tiling, replacing carpet, painting, plumbing and minor electrical work. Employees will work on historical and non historical buildings and structures. Employee transports tools, materials and possibly livestock in trucks and truck and trailer combos up to 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight.
Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 90 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting and tool use procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. Required to hike up to 15 miles a day carrying tools and supplies.
Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures negative 40 to +90 degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, rain and snow. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks and biting insects. Will spend extended days in backcountry camping and working.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
