The incumbent installs, maintains, evaluates and adjusts, repairs and calibrates electronic control equipment and systems in support of the greenhouse environmental control system at the USBG. This includes the specialized environmental control system and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) operations.
This position is essential. The incumbent is required to report to work during emergencies and inclement weather situations. Tour of duty may include holidays, nights and weekends.
Depending on the size, scope, the complexity, the priority and/or the urgency, the incumbent works either independently or with other members of the Operations Division in the performance of oral and/or written work orders, construction projects, exhibits, horticultural shows, greenhouse environmental control systems and associated equipment monitoring and equipment maintenance.
Works in support of the USBG’s exhibitions, displays, special events and educational programs. This work may include assisting other trades in the design, fabrication, installation, transportation and removal of exhibits.
Provides support and assists other trades in the basic performance of general operations and maintenance work throughout USBG facilities.
Maintains, evaluates, adjusts and repairs existing electronic sensing and control equipment in support of greenhouse and HVAC operations.
Reviews, keeps up and checks the status of the computer operated environmental control system and all the areas that it controls. Effects corrective action as needed, this includes changing the transfer switch, checking the operation of the secondary computer, monitoring the position of the equipment switches and calling for computer support. Regularly checks and confirms the various display screens which includes zone summary, alarms, zone detail and conditional control. Reads as necessary the master menu and checks the zone parameters for the temperature regimes and strategies for the growing environments. In order to validate the information from the environmental control system, regularly checks the status of the growing environment and compares those conditions with the environmental control system.
Installs, modifies, operates, maintains, calibrates, evaluates, troubleshoots, adjusts and repairs Direct Digital Controls (DDC) components downstream of building routers networks and twisted pair cabling as well as related mechanical equipment. Monitors the ongoing performance, operates DDC software and makes recommendations for interface improvement. Identifies to the supervisor the materials and services required by the system. Provides technical support to find solutions to ‘control’ problems with the DDC system and related hardware. Reports the status of the entire system and related hardware and integrity of system software.
Works with a wide variety of standard residential and/or industrial electrical devices, equipment and systems, including electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment in USBG facilities.
Develops changes to detailed schematics, drawings and maintenance procedures for use by lower-grade employees. Coordinates efforts with engineering personnel on changes to equipment and operating specifications.
Evaluates and adjusts new system installations and repairs existing systems during operational tests. As needed, improvises procedures to cope with unforeseen defects. Modifies test equipment as needed. Revises and updates schematics, drawings and maintenance procedures for use by lower-grade employees.
Operates the greenhouse Environmental Control System and Building Automation System (BAS) terminals and other related equipment to display and print point status, change set points and alarm limits and manually controlled points.
Operates DDC software and makes recommendations for engagements to screen and control sequences for energy performance.
Acknowledges and follows-up on system error alarms log report daily to the greenhouse Environmental Control System and BAS terminal to maintain system integrity.
