Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list
A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT, GS-0603-12, 1. This position is primarily for administrative medical assessments and readiness functions. May Serve as the Officer in Charge (OIC) in support of the state level Soldier Readiness Process (SRP). Provide subject matter expert, technical, administrative advisory and guidance to customers, command, contractors, National Guard Technicians Civilians, and Active Guard Reserve personnel on all aspects of the state level SRP process. Responsible to develop and establish criteria and process for the method of flow thru the various SRP stations. Focus should include having a significant impact on reduction of wait time, streamlining of processes, program effectiveness and efficiency. Establish criteria for obtaining follow up laboratory tests, X-rays and or other diagnostics based on exam type and purpose from an authorized treating provider (e.g., Periodic Health Assessment, Chapter 2 physical, Line of Duty Care). Perform soldier evaluations including physical examinations to determine if the standards of AR 40-501 are met in response to Commander requests (e.g., Fit for Duty Evaluations, specialty exams for schools and positions). Establish clear and concise communication with the referring provider as necessary. Ensure COCOM guidance criteria and waiver submission accordingly IAW AR policy document and profile temporary limitations in the member's medical record. Provide medical support to organizations requesting support for service members. Draft, design, and develop standard operating procedures to ensure continuity, standardization of care, administrative and reporting processes. Documents actions in relevant medical records systems (e.g., MHS Genesis, MODS, MEDCHART - eMMPS, HRR, eCase) (40%)
2. Uses clinical skills and knowledge to complete comprehensive medical and physical assessments, and preventative medical services for assigned soldiers IAW with prescribed regulations, policies, and orders. Expanded treatment may be performed when the appropriate Interfacility Credentials Transfer Brief (ICTB) is in place or at lawfully arranged time period and facility. Consult and coordinate with multi-disciplinary care professionals internal and external to the organization to assist member to obtain optimal medical benefit. Performs complete exam history including records, lab and imaging evaluation and performs exams and requests through treating provider, appropriate ancillary studies and referrals as required. Interface with units assigned to the State, and other civilian or military medical treatment facilities, Case Management professionals, Physical and Medical Evaluation Board members, etc. regarding member's medical status. Via secure automated system, submit files and records to obtain higher level signature.
Administers comprehensive medical assessments, physical assessments, and preventive medical services to soldiers. Performs comprehensive physical assessments of soldiers to include full physical assessments, significant past medical and surgical history, family history, social history, recording/reviewing current medications, and immunization history. Requests, and interprets laboratory tests related to Individual Medical Readiness (IMR). Requests, evaluates, and applies the findings of radiological studies. May prescribe readiness medications/vaccinations IAW with state, territory, or the District of Columbia licensing, credentialing and privileging and standing military orders from COCOM or other lawful Army order. When needed, request consultations to assist on interpretation of abnormal studies and discusses the interpretation of abnormal studies with the member's treating provider. Services involve direct management of occupational/preventive medicine practices including, but not limited to, Specialty Physicals conducted IAW current regulations and DoD instructions/policies. fitness for duty (FFD) assessments, annual, and Periodic Health Assessments (PHA), annual Health Assessments, State Level Line of Duty (LOD) determination, Medical Continuation (MEDCON), participates in Incapacitation (INCAP) medical determination board, Convalescent Leave (CONLV) for profiling purposes only, participates in Disability Evaluation System (DES) medical determination. Performs person to person provider contact in mental health assessments in the absence of a behavioral health officer. Manages medical assessments addressed during the SRP process. Manages Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Program (can be designated HIV provider). Reviews civilian and military medical provider documentation and/or referrals to determine appropriate military medical management of soldiers and required referrals including, but not limited to, operational dispositions. Evaluates adherence to medical care plan to include scheduled medical, physical therapy, and mental health appointments. (30%)

- To qualify for the 0603 series:
o Graduation from a Medical Practitioner or physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant(external link) (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
o Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants(external link) (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education(external link) (CME) and re-certification.
o A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- To qualify for the 0610 Series:

- A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
- Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
- Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.

THIS IS A MINNESOTA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION
