- Operates, maintains, repairs, and performs troubleshooting on electrical operating systems for the elevators, cavern lighting using PSU Control Units, and Emergency Battery Back-up Lighting. Incumbent will be requested as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to assists with planning and recommendations on upcoming mechanical projects.
- Responsible for the operation, repair, and maintenance of several types of HVAC systems and controls, with a variety of components. Heating systems include high temperature, diesel fuel fired hydronic as well as forced air systems, mini- splits, low and high temperature heat pump systems, electric radiator, and hot water radiator. Other HVAC equipment includes (BCC) Building Climate Control systems for curatorial spaces that include humidifying/dehumidifying components, preheat, and reheat coils, and CO2 and NO2 monitors.
- The incumbent installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment park-wide in accordance with CFR 19910.331-5 and the National Electric Code (NEC). Work consists of installing and troubleshooting meters, load centers, circuit breakers, equipment controls, lighting, and power outlets, disconnects, solenoids, relays, and lighting fixtures.
- Duties include the repair, replacement, and/or installation of sinks, faucets, lavatories, valves, showers, tubs, and water systems to buildings and residences. Other duties include repairing various pumps, and general plumbing maintenance. Preventive maintenance of the equipment and systems will be stressed including tools of the trade such as pipe threaders, wrenches, transit, tapping machines, pipe cutters, manual and power tools associated with the field.
AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Carlsbad Caverns National Park is located 27 miles from the city of Carlsbad in southeastern New Mexico. The Park, at an elevation of 4400 feet, has a semi-arid climate with hot summers, mild winters, abundant sunshine, low humidity, and approximately 10 inches of rainfall per year. Carlsbad (population 29,000) has all amenities and services including medical and dental facilities, motels, banks, restaurants, churches, grocery stores, department stores, and several recreation facilities. Information about Carlsbad and the Carlsbad area can be found at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. Schools include K-12, and Southeast New Mexico College. Other services can be found in Albuquerque (280 miles), El Paso, Texas (170 miles), Lubbock, Texas (180 miles), or Midland/Odessa, Texas (150 miles). Recreation opportunities are plentiful with Guadalupe Mountains National Park located 50 miles from the city of Carlsbad, two state parks (Brantley Lake and Living Desert Zoo), and the Lincoln National Forest within an hour's drive. Please note: A government van pool may be available and provide service between Carlsbad, NM and Carlsbad Caverns National Park for staff on the core shift.

Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50-100 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.
