Duties

Help

The Facilities Services Worker Supervisor is responsible for supervising all loading dock activities, motor vehicle operations, and facilities services. The museum proper is located in New York City (Manhattan) and the storage facility is located in Newark, NJ.

In this position, you will:

  • Serve as the supervisor for the Facilities Services staff. Duties include the following: assigning tasks; establishing deadlines; providing on-the-job training; investigating and resolving work related problems; implementing corrective actions; scheduling and approving leave; determining training needs and providing performance appraisals.
  • Interpret provided instructions in order to communicate work status, progress and delays, both verbally and in writing.
  • Serve as the Loading Dock Coordinator. Responsibilities include loading dock safety and management. Duties includes the receiving, storing, safeguarding, shipping and ordering of supplies.  
  • Inspect motor vehicles, ensuring that they are properly serviced and operating on schedule.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the physical ability to perform moderately heavy work including lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 50 lbs.; working outside in all weather conditions with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen and insects; climbing ladders and stairs; and standing and walk for extended periods.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in all forms of inclement weather conditions. Work performed in the loading dock area will be mean being exposed to fumes from diesel trucks and other vehicles. The incumbent is also exposed to cuts, scrapes, etc. in handling materials. Protective equipment such as hard hats and steel toed shoes are required.

Other Significant Facts: 
The incumbent is an emergency essential employee and is required to report to, or remain at, work for his or her regular tour of duty during administrative closings due to hazardous weather or other emergency situations. The position requires the ability to work overtime and fill in for staff as needed on holidays, weekends or late evenings.
