Senior science lead for the National Conservation Lands. The position is located within the Division of the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) in the BLM Headquarters Office. Incumbent develops and delivers the NLCS Science Program. Major duties include but are not limited to:
Manages the nationwide Science Program for the National Conservation Lands. Coordinates projects with other Divisions. Assesses current and future science needs of the National Conservation Lands.
Manages the National Conservation Lands Management Studies Support Program aiming to increase the effectiveness of resource management by financially supporting partner-conducted research that informs the effective decision-making.
Coordinates with the agencies National Science Committee, representing the directorate (including education, paleo/cultural, and recreation) and their science needs.
Implements the National Conservation Lands Science Strategy and coordinates internally with headquarters, State/District/Field Offices and units of the National Conservation Lands. Serves as the primary contact for external customers and stakeholders interested in the National Conservation Lands Science Program.
Develops national level science initiatives and facilitates the integration of scientific information into National Conservation Lands decision-making.
Physical Demands: The work involves office activities, largely of a sedentary nature. Travel is required in connection with various work assignments. Rugged terrain in the West may involve strenuous hiking or climbing. The incumbent often works under very tight deadlines involving projects of national significance.
Work Environment: Most of the work is performed in an office setting where risks, generally associated with an office environment, are present.

Specialized Experience Requirements: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the basic education and the specialized experience requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level include: Experience involving the evaluation of scientific proposals, facilitating the implementation of science research, including budgetary oversight, and communicating results and outcomes to agency scientists, managers, and leadership, as well as external organizations; experience managing a national level science program.
