The biologist is engaged in the study, inventory, monitoring, restoration, and management of a broad range of natural resources which may include, but is not limited to: vegetation, wildlife, air and water quality, soils, geology, geomorphology, hydrology, and other physical sciences.
As a developmental GS-09 Biologist, the incumbent performs the full range of duties but with close supervision and direction including:

Physical demands: This position may require strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Some activities will occur in physically dangerous areas or settings. Documentary research and report writing is sedentary, which entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time.
Work environment: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all type of weather. Assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas including steep slopes, rocky terrain, caves, firelines, arctic environments, wetlands, deserts, and forests. Flying in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters is possible.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for occasional telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
Salary range by grade level:
GS-09 step 1 through step 10: $59,165 to $76,915
GS-11 step 1 through step 10: $71,583 to $93,056
There is a 4.40% tax free cost of living allowance that will be added to the pay above. Pay is subject to annual review and adjustment.
Alaska currently does not have a state income tax or statewide sales tax.
