Duties

Help
  • Technician intern positions require the ability to learn and apply engineering principles and practices. Examples of duties include:
  • Performing standardized or prescribed operations, applying a limited background of knowledge of engineering methods and practices.
  • Providing engineering support in the development of unmanned vehicle systems.
  • Recommending deviation or alternatives to procedures based upon the familiarity with the problem and study of the pertinent literature.

Qualifications

ELIGIBILITY:
In order to be eligible for this position, your resume must provide sufficient information, level of education, current degree program and expected date of graduation, knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. You are eligible at the NR-01 band level if you are currently accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an accredited high school; OR you are eligible if you are currently enrolled in or accepted for enrollment in an accredited college (including 2-year and 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in Physical Science or a degree that includes at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as Astronomy, Physics, Geophysics, Chemistry, Hydrology, Health Physics, Engineering, Electronics, Geology, Oceanography, Meteorology, Metallurgy, Biology, Atmospheric Sciences, Mathematics, and Computational Sciences. Enrollment must be on at least a half-time basis. All educational requirements and documentation to verify your eligibility for this position must be provided prior to Entrance on Duty.

Grade Point Average (G.P.A) Requirement: This position requires you to currently possess and maintain an overall G.P.A of 2.5 or greater out of a 4.0 scale. (G.P.A.'s are rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.45 rounds to 2.5 and 2.44 rounds to 2.4). Your G.P.A. must be reflected in your resume.

This position may be non-competitively converted to a position in one of the following series: 1311 or 1301 series within the NR or NP Career Tracks at the 01 or 02 Pay Band levels depending on your highest attained level of education after meeting all regulatory requirements (including qualification requirements), and upon the recommendation of management. QUALIFYING EDUCATION:
Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:
1) A high school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such a body or a State; and
2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:
(i) A technical or vocational school;
(ii) A 2-year or 4-year college or university;
(iii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or
(iv) A home-school curriculum.

PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION:
Interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program.To be eligible for conversion, Interns must:

Be a US Citizen
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
Complete their degree or certificate requirements
Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and
Perform their job successfully

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and a current student enrolled in:
