As a Natural Resource Specialist you will:

-Support preparation of sections of major planning products and related delivery of planning services.
-Support preparation of research scopes, budgets, and schedules in consultation with the technical lead and project manager.
-Communicate on assigned tasks and related to the project manager to ensure planning projects remains on track.
-Research law and policy as needed, and contributing to the development of products that are compliant with federal laws and regulations and D01/NPS position.
-Contribute to the assessment of data needs and related analysis to ensure adequate resource data are gathered and assessed to successfully to meet planning needs.
-Write assigned portions of NEPA documents (environmental assessments, environmental impact statements , Finding of No Significant Impacts, Records of Decision) to ensure all compliance mandates are met.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Natural Resource Specialist position, you must meet the following requirements by the closing of this announcement:

Basic Requirements: In order to qualify for the 0401, Natural Resource Specialist series, you must possess the Basic Qualifications below:

A Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

-OR-

A combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

AND

Minimum Qualifications:

In addition to meeting the basic requirements, to qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by the close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include but is not limited to: Applying principles, practices, and methods of park planning, and environmental analysis related to national parks and other protected areas; applying concepts, principles, and practices relating to park planning and compliance projects; updating technical skills within the field of planning to stay on the leading edge of technology, including adapting the latest in research and development as communicated in the technical literature; using oral and written communications to effectively contribute to professional and public understanding of projects and to produce assigned portions of planning documents.

2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

Additional information

Physical Demands: Although the majority of the work is sedentary in nature, frequent field trips may involve considerable amount of walking, hiking, climbing, and the carrying of gear/equipment. Some strenuous physical exertion may occur on these field trips. Occasional periods of long hours required while in travel status.

Working Conditions: The work is usually performed in an office environment, meeting rooms, or similar meetings. Travel is frequent and involves the normal risks and discomforts of automobile, bus, rail, or air transportation. During fieldtrips, the incumbent is often in the out-of-doors and may experience weather extremes, insect bites, varied topography, and other physical demands.

The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
