We are looking for a pro-active team member to manage the Natural Resources Management and Science Division, who is responsible for managing the people, funding and daily operations. The position is a key position on the management team, working closely with the superintendent and the four other division chiefs. There is a staff of less than 30 people in the park, but the effectiveness of the group is extended with our volunteers and partners for all divisions.The incumbent is responsible for:

This notice is being issued to recruit personnel to occupations for which a severe shortage of candidates exists and/or a critical hiring need has been identified. To assist in filling these positions, OPM has granted agencies "Direct Hire Authority".

Physical Demands: Work is generally sedentary and requires long periods of sitting and concentrating during the planning, preparations, and reviews of budgets, documents, and literature. Documentary research and report writing work is sedentary, which entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time. The position may require strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting and carrying heavy objects. Some activities will occur in physically dangerous areas or settings.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas including steep and unstable slopes, rocky terrain, caves, firelines, deserts, forests and slippery intertidal environments. Flying in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters is possible. Local climate is mild with temperature ranges of 60 - 90 degrees in summer, and 40 - 60 degrees in the winter.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for situational telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval and a completed telework agreement. Note: supervisory positions are not authorized for core telework (recurring, scheduled basis) per the Department of Interior Telework Policy.
