As a Supervisory General Engineer or Supervisory Physical Scientist you will:
Serve as an Authoritative National and International Nuclear Security Enterprise, General Engineer/Physical Scientist Expert Consultant for NNSA nuclear and non-proliferation programs, weapons, research and development, systems, operations, construction, facilities, activities, Planning, Programming, Budgeting, Cost Estimation and Execution (PPBE).
Plan, develop, evaluate, oversee, advise long and short range NNSA nuclear, engineering, and science programs, short- and long-range plans, projects, operations and activities, impacting national or international non-proliferation, nuclear weapons, and security.
Evaluate existing and proposed nuclear programs and systems; initiate new program development strategies to advance or extend nuclear engineering and scientific knowledge.
Accomplish program planning and cost estimate engineering and/or scientific research for Program Offices developing data-informed, defensible PPBE fiscal program plans and cost estimates.
Review and assess budget and strategic planning activities, addressing emerging issues.
Exercise authority for personnel actions for all subordinate employees. Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, prepare schedules for completion of work; assign work to subordinates, evaluate work performance of subordinates; recommend performance pay increase, awards or bonuses; make personnel changes; give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees; and identify and implement developmental and training needs of employees.

Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience independently applying advanced engineering or physical science practices, methods and concepts evaluating and assessing budget and strategic planning activities of existing and proposed nuclear programs and systems; exploring and evaluating the costs and budget implications of incorporating state-of-the-art technological improvements into nuclear programs and systems.

1. Skill applying, the art and science of engineering or physical sciences sufficient to formulate, evaluate, nurture, and promote generation and exchange of new theories, concepts, principles, methods, applications, and practices; to plan, evaluate, and execute short- and long- range programs impacting national & international issues; to serve as an authoritative expert and consultant on broad programs, in highly specialized fields, & industries affecting national or international interests and the well-being of the public.
2. Authoritative knowledge of the theories and advanced state-of-the-art concepts and principles practiced in the science of professional engineering or physical sciences sufficient to understand the parameters underlying highly complex technical issues and to provide expert advisory services related to the cost, schedule, risk and budget implications of the design and operation of existing and new self-sustained facilities, and nuclear weapons systems in order to serve as a nationally recognized expert on the application of physical science or engineering science to the evaluation of the sustainment and improvement of facilities and weapons systems in order to analyze, formulate, explain, issue, and promulgate policies, and standards on such systems.
3. Skill in program, project, acquisition principles and techniques, budget processes, technical requirements, procurement processes and procedures, and contract terms and conditions in order to manage programs, projects, and/or evaluate contractor operations.
4. Skill in written and oral communication to work with all levels of DOE/NNSA management, field and Albuquerque Complex managers, program representatives, contractors, and private industry on programs, projects, policies, processes, legislation in order conducting negotiations, solving problems, presenting briefings, or program reviews.
5. Skill in leading or supervising a staff and directing the work of others.

Basic Requirements:
801 - Degree: professional engineering. The curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR Combination of education and experience: college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. There are alternate methods to meeting the engineering educational requirement (e.g., holding current professional engineering registration, having passed the EIT examination, or having completed specified academic courses or a related degree).
