Duties
- Operates target systems for automated ranges in the training complex during day and night-time live-fire training scenarios.
- Observes, monitors and provides advice to range users on firing activities, including visibility requirements conducted on the training complex IAW standard operating procedures and Army guidance.
- Monitors and evaluates target systems to determine serviceability and identify system faults and prepares recommendations for new maintenance and repair schedules, processes, and procedures.
- Monitors and observes range users and all maintenance activities on the training complex by inspecting physical structures, utilities, roadways, and surrounding grounds.
- Ensures range operations are conducted in accordance with Range Safety and other applicable regulations.
- Operates and maintains TMP vehicles to support range mission functions, carrying one or more passengers on a daily basis.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a State driver's license within 90 days as duties will include operation of motor vehicle throughout the range complex.
- Must have normal depth perception and color vision.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
- Subject to Recall or may be required to report for duty during adverse weather or in times of national disaster to preclude additional loss or damage to resources at the range facility.
- Subject to an irregular tour of duty, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays and shift work necessary to cover 24 hour-a-day, 7 days per week operation.
- May be required to pass the Range Operations Professional Development course, Inter-Service Range Safety Course (Intermediate) within one year of employment IAW Training Circular TC 25-8, Training Ranges.

- Current Department of Army Civilian Employees
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the operation of range live fire training AND the ability to build scenarios, up-loads and modify computer software for controlling target exposures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position in engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
