The U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) invests in communities and regions across the United States to accelerate growth and strengthen competitiveness. Since 2020, EDA has launched new national, placed-based economic development competitions (including the Build Back Better Regional Challenge (BBBRC), the Good Jobs Challenge (GJC), Tech Hubs, and the Recompete Pilot Program) and has continued to operate long-running programs (including Build to Scale (B2S) and the STEM Talent Challenge) that invite regional coalitions to propose projects that leverage regional assets and respond to specific local conditions and that EDA implements via its National Programs team.
These programs invest in wide-ranging project types and structures that are unified by underlying principles of embracing broad-based economic growth, creating good-paying jobs, and enhancing U.S. global competitiveness, resilience, and national security. Together, these programs complement EDA's other programs to advance U.S. economic development, rebuild American communities grappling with decades of disinvestment, and enhance already thriving local economies to ensure the industries of the future start, grow, and remain in regions across the country.
