Duties
As an IT Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate security programs of organization, including the implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities such as intrusion detection or access authentication programs. Coordinate implementation of security programs across platforms and establish vulnerability reporting criteria. Enforce proper back up procedures for all system and network information. Enforce legal controls that provide protection from unauthorized access, alteration, loss, disclosure, and blocking of information. Implement higher-level security requirements.
- Coordinate development of information security system and application policies, guidelines, standards, requirements, and procedures. Recommend ways to protect organization's information and information systems. Participate in web based applications, network, and systems designs to ensure implementation of systems security policies, guidelines and procedures, including initial design; system life cycle change review; and configuration management.
- Plan and schedule the installation of new or modified hardware and operating systems and applications software. Serve on the Information Technology (IT) help desk team to provide routine support to users. Plan and deliver customer support services, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and training, in response to customer requirements. Resolve problems in response to customer reported incidents.
- Create and manage accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment. Manage system resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability. Develop and document system administration standard operating procedures. Resolve hardware/software interface and interoperability problems. Ensure system availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency and maintain systems configuration.

This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band.
