The district maintains programs in law enforcement, structural/Wildland fire, EMS and SAR. The district encompasses approximately 10,000 acres of the Colorado River, Paria River and slick rock country ranging in elevation from 3,100 to 5,000 feet. The person selected for this position will be expected to develop and maintain the skills required for operating an ambulance, high-performance patrol boats, 4x4 front/back country patrol vehicles that are used to patrol some of the most technically challenging roads in the park system. The primary duties for this district are land and water-based year-round. The selectee should be comfortable working solo and back packing in rugged terrain. This position does require government housing. Frequent after-hours callouts are likely. Below are common daily duties:
AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Halls/ Hite Crossing District, Utah:
Highest call volumes being in EMS (Glen Canyon is an Advanced Life Support Park area) and law enforcement with the emphasis on boater safety. Provides EMS with NREMT certification. The district encompasses approximately 800,000 acres of slick rock country ranging in elevation from 4,000 to 8,000 feet and includes a large amount of Lake Powell and whitewater portions of the Colorado and San Juan Rivers. The person selected for this position will be expected to develop and maintain the skills required for operating an ambulance, high-performance patrol boats, 4x4 front country patrol vehicles, oar-powered whitewater rafts, and modified jeeps that are used to patrol some of the most technically challenging roads in the system. The selectee should be comfortable working solo and backpacking in rugged terrain. If not already certified the selectee will be sent to DOIMOCC for boat operations. This position requires government housing occupancy and frequent after-hours callouts are likely.

A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.
Physical Demand: Duties involve performing physically rigorous assignments, often in isolated outdoor environments, frequently exposed to severe weather conditions. Dangerous persons must be physically confronted, subdued, and apprehended, many of whom are known to carry weapons. Prisoners must be kept under physical restraint during transportation and processing. Criminal investigations often must be carried out without regard for fixed work schedules, days off, or opportunities for proper rest or nutrition.
Working Conditions: The Incumbent is frequently exposed to high-risk and potentially dangerous situations in law enforcement and emergency types of situations requiring use of a wide range of personal protective gear (some of which may be uncomfortable, hot, or inconvenient to wear), adherence to specific safety procedures, and other precautions. Incumbent is required to operate motor vehicles of various types, may be required to fly in a fixed wing or rotary wing aircraft, and may be required to operate and/or ride in small watercraft. Emergency law enforcement operations will require entry into hazardous environments, exposure to dangerous persons, animals, and substances, and exposure to infectious diseases. Long periods of surveillance work may be required in cramped, or unpleasant locations, and under unpleasant conditions, shift work is often required.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are NOT suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
