General Description of Assigned Duties:
Demonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice while providing care to clients. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties:
The Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients. They delegate and oversee basic nursing care of licensed practical nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel and having responsibility of work delegation. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization. Nurse is able to conduct patient centered rounding utilizing the SBAR Tool and all transition of care. Practice includes directing other providers. Partners with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum. Plans and delivers technically competent care t patients. Ability to recognize abnormal signs and symptoms and changes in patients conditions and respond appropriately. Provides urgent and emergent care to patients with acute and/or chronic medical, surgical, and psychiatric conditions. Nursing care ranges from basic nursing care to stabilization, resuscitation, and life-support measures. Ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments. Documentation is consistent, accurate, concise and timely. The nurse brings principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills.
The ED RN is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing care. Organizes and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner, and assisting team members as necessary. They assess the patient by collecting pertinent data or information, including the triage of patients based on the five-level triage system to prioritize patients that require more immediate care. They use the assessment data to determine diagnoses, problems, or other concerns. They will identify expected outcomes to develop a collaborative and individualized plan for each patient. Demonstrates grade-appropriate and consistent critical thinking skills. The ED RN will implement that plan, including care coordination, health teaching, and health promotion. They evaluate the progress toward achieving the expected goal and outcomes and adjusts the plan as necessary. Treats self and others with loving kindness and compassion.
