The Compounding Sterile Product (CSP) Program Manager is responsible to oversee, manage and coordinate the compounding related initiatives, safety, and performance improvement within Eastern Kansas VA Health Care System. The CSP Program Manager works with the IV Lead Pharmacy technicians as well as other appropriate pharmacy personnel and management o assure all regulatory and accreditation standards are met.

Duties:
a. Program Management
1. Subject matter expert to Eastern Kansas Health Care System (EKHCS) staff over compounded medications, including Pharmacy leadership, clinicians, and administrator regarding sterile compounding, USP 797, 797 and 800 guidelines, regulations, accreditation standards and related educational outreach programming.
2. On an ongoing basis reviews VA national, VISN and local initiatives and performance measure metrics to develop corrective actions and policies.
3. Responsible for the development, revision, and execution of pharmacy sterile and non-sterile compounding as well as hazardous drug handling policies and procedures.
4. Serves as a back up to the Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Practitioner and obtains credentialing and privileging to function as a provider.
b. Education & Training Functions
1. Works with the Pharmacy Clinical Educator Program Manager to designs and provides education based on targeted performance areas and data to targeted providers, pharmacists, and clinical teams.
2. Works with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and other clinicians to identify, develop and implement target programs. Develops and performs formal and informal education to promote these programs and gain acceptance.
3. Assist in developing training resource materials for VAEKHCS staff and patients along with the Clinical Pharmacy Educator Program Manager.
c. Drug Information
1. Serves as the subject matter expert for compounded medication shortages and prior authorization process for all parties involved (e.g., VA, manufacturer) along with other pertinent pharmacy personnel including the Procurement Pharmacy Program Manager.
2. Uses appropriate references to research drug information. Has a good working knowledge of information resources, both written and electronic.
3. Maintains a current knowledge of therapeutics and disease management.
d. Performance Measures
1. Maintains current knowledge, responsibility, and understanding of VISN 15 PBM, local and national performance measures.
2. Maintains current knowledge for access and use of VISN 15 PBM dashboards.
e. Administrative Functions
1. Attends and contributes to workshops, lectures, journal clubs, case presentations, in-service meetings, team meetings, particularly in area of specialty.
2. Understands and adheres to policies and procedures of Pharmacy Service and VISN 15; includes Joint Commission, Office of Inspector General, Drug Enforcement Agency, American Society of Health-system Pharmacists as well as other VA Pharmacy regulatory requirements.
f. Research
1. Actively collaborates with EKHCS staffing the design and implementation of research protocols, and collection of data and participates in the analysis and interpretation of the results.
2. Participates in collaborative research studies involving drug therapy with other services.
3. Precepts pharmacy residents and students.
g. Safety
1. Environmental Care
Follows Life Safety Management (fire protection) procedures. Reports safety hazards, accidents, and injuries. Reviews hazardous materials/ Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) waste management. Follow Emergency Preparedness plan. Follows security policies/procedures. Complies with federal, state, and local environment and other requirements preventing pollution, minimizing waste, and conserving cultural and natural resources.
2. Infection Control
Demonstrates infection control practices for disease prevention (i.e., hand washing, universal precautions/isolation procedures.
h. Green Environmental Management Systems (GEMS)
Familiarizes self with how their activities impact VA's goal to implement sound stewardship practices that are protective of the air, water, land, and other natural and cultural resources. In accordance with the goals of the VA GEMS program, seeks to cost-effectively meet or exceed compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local environmental; public health.
