This Merit Promotion position is open to Current Federal Employees and Former Federal Employees with permanent status or reinstatement eligibility. The primary purpose of the position is to advance the museum’s objectives for collections care and public access, through the strategic management of data for an estimated 1.8 million objects and 21,000 square feet of archival material.

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience defined as contributing to the creation or development of shared standards or procedures for describing historical, cultural, archival, or museum collections, building on professional best practices for cataloging and classification

Skill in applying knowledge of cataloging standards, workflows, and best practices, in order to develop NMAH’s program of creating and sharing data about historical objects and archival materials.
Skill in guiding collaborations with experts across disciplines, including gathering input from multiple sources and leading stakeholders to consensus or resolution.
Ability to manage multiple projects, including determining priorities, scoping work, developing timelines, delegating tasks, tracking progress, and evaluating success.
Knowledge of modern museum collections information technologies and concepts—for example relational databases, digital asset management systems, linked data vocabularies, and/or application programming interfaces—and ability to analyze and evaluate their application to museum processes and goals.
