The Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) is responsible for functions assigned by United States Code Title 10, section 135, and ensuring efficiency in the operation of the Department of Defense through sound business management and effective fiscal planning and control. The Deputy Comptroller (Program/Budget) is responsible for the direction and supervision of DoD's budget formulation and management, budgeting and execution portions of the PPBE, and establishing budgetary policies.
