The Nurse Practitioner will perform duties as an independent practitioner, with advanced education and appropriate experience to provide high quality and evidence-based care for a population of culturally and gender-diverse Veteran patients. The NP uses advanced assessment, planning and evaluation, as well as approved standardized procedures, to provide preventive and illness management healthcare incorporating the patient's age, gender, culture and learning abilities in the treatment plan. The NP will collaborate with many disciplines to provide care, including physicians, pharmacists, registered nurses, licensed practical/vocational nurses, dietitians, social workers, clerical and administrative staff, community agencies. The NP executes position responsibilities in a respectful way that demonstrates leadership in commitment to the VA I CARE values and initiates creative approaches to management of complex patient care. The Nurse Practitioner is proficient and understands whole person care and perceives its meaning in terms of long-term goals. The proficient NP remains aware of typical events to expect and proactively modifies plans in response to these events. The Nurse NP demonstrates quality performance to improve holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. The NP will compassionately provide health teaching to Veterans and their families.
