The incumbent serves as an Information Technology Specialist (NDW N946) in the Information Technology Branch (NDW N946). Incumbent leads technical support and training users of the Commander Navy Installations Command (CNIC) Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) Management Information Systems (MIS) and Point of Sale (POS) systems throughout NDW.

Provides technical support to Windows clients and servers and may provide basic programming functions to include designing and developing software selections, integrating software programs to work together and developing data base systems and assisting with networks and operating specifications, integrating with station networks as appropriate.
Assists the MIS Management team in the implementation and maintenance of the CNIC Millington Detachment MIS/POS/Catering/Payroll, Child and Youth Management System (CYMS) and Timekeeping Systems for the NDW region.
Assists with training front line employees on both the operation and maintenance of associated hardware and software systems associated with MIS/POS/Catering/Business Systems, and CYMS.
May install, configure and upgrade operating systems and software, using standard business and administrative packages; may modify specific applications. Installs, assembles and configures computers, monitors, routers, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers, scanners, and related hardware; pulls cables and rewires or directs the rewiring of cables as required for new installations and office reconfiguration.
Assists users by troubleshooting problems as they occur, responds rapidly by phone, pager or in person to ensure all systems are operational seven days a week and quickly repairs or directs the problem to supervisor for resolution when able ascertains extent of problem and initiates resolution (i.e. software, hardware, connectivity, etc.).
Performs preventative maintenance and recommends preventative measures as necessary.
Assists MIS management with plans and designs for acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology and may recommend modifications as necessary.
Assists with developing and documenting practical, workable solutions and reviewing with users. Programs and/or tests solutions.
Assists with Active Directory maintenance and strategic planning.
Assists with WSUS maintenance and administration. Antivirus administration and maintenance.
Review logs, apply updates, maintain licensure, ensure all PC's and servers are updated and protected. Verify all data backup jobs are running successfully, and checks daily/weekly for accuracy. May conduct periodic reviews to verify physical security controls remain in place.
Assists with ensuring that local configurations on systems are DOD compliant with gold disk standards, and information system warning banners.
Assist in ensuring that POS systems are operating in compliance with Payment Card Industry Standards (PCI) by conducting periodic reviews of all related hardware and software.
Responsible for inventories of computer equipment and software within internet facilities.
Resolves problems ranging from equipment operation to utilization of computer systems and application programs and analyzes problem to determine if there is equipment malfunction, software problems or lack of user understanding regarding the use of equipment or software.
Assists in customer support to over 400 computer users and ensures all users have proper security clearances.
Assists in tracking the maintenance of both hardware and software associated with MIS/POS. Recommends additions to inventory as warranted. Ensures safeguarding of Navy property reporting any shortages or misuse to supervisor as soon as possible. Performs Systems Data Sheets for review to ascertain if needed change out, upgrade or expansion of internet systems is warranted.
Performs other related duties as directed.
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is preferred, but may be substituted by a minimum of 3 years general experience, and a minimum 1 year specific documented experience in the areas noted herein
