In this position you will supervise the maintenance of facilities located at Navajo National Monument to include visitor center, campgrounds, comfort stations, housing units, trails, roads and utilities. Work supervised will include a variety of trades such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, associated building trades, trail and road work. You will assist the Facility Manager in planning to include; preparation of financial plans, identification of asset deficiencies, and prioritization of work including routine and recurring work, special projects, contracts, and emergency repairs. Develops maintenance safety program to address employee protection and safe work practices, participates in Group safety committee. Applies the best basic health, sanitary, and mechanical principles and practices to ensure proper operation and maintenance of microbiological and physical chemical processes for efficient treatment of well water distribution systems. You must possess and maintain at least a Grade 1 Water Treatment Operator certification.
Navajo National Monument is located within the boundary of Navajo Reservation on the North Central portion of Navajo County in Arizona. Navajo National Monument is located 9 miles off of HWY 160 at the end of AZ HWY 564. Junction 564 is located 19 miles west of Kayenta where visitors will take a right on to AZ HWY 564 if they are driving from Kayenta (visitors will take a left if driving towards Kayenta, AZ). Once on AZ HWY 564, visitors will drive 9 miles until they reach park boundaries and the visitor center. Drive 9 Miles at the end of AZ Highway 564, off US Highway 160. Hospital, gas station, churches, medical facility, elementary and middle school are in Kayenta 19 miles East. The climate is semi-arid climate with an elevation of 7,100 ft.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Physical Demands: Incumbent works on various structures utilizing ladders, scaffolds, and platforms and in cramped places. This requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and cramped positions. Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds. Occasionally strenuous physical effort is exerted in climbing and carrying hand tools and in the repair of powered equipment. Performs backcountry hiking in steep terrain for distances up to 8 to 10 miles/day while carrying a pack.
