The successful candidate will perform the full range of duties. The successful candidate will serve as a safety inspector in the Division of Fuel Management (DFM) with responsibility for 1) the inspection of designers, fabricators and users of nuclear material transportation packaging and/or spent fuel dry cask storage systems and 2) development of Commission QA policy for designers, fabricators and users of nuclear material transportation packaging and/or spent fuel dry cask storage systems.
Such duties include but are not limited to:
1. Plans and leads multi-disciplined safety inspections of licensees, certificate holders, vendors and/or suppliers of nuclear material transportation packaging and/or spent fuel dry cask storage systems, focusing on implementation of regulatory requirements, with particular emphasis on quality assurance.
2. Develops and updates instructions and procedures for inspection of NRC-approved QA Programs.
3. Responsible for representing the NRC on National committees developing standards, codes, guides, and criteria related to safety and QA requirements.
4. Reviews submittals relative to regulatory requirements and guidance and prepares safety evaluation inputs and/or technical reports to support licensing, license amendments, certifications, and exemptions from the regulations.
5. Prepares and presents technical information or innovative approaches at Commission meetings, ACRS meetings, ASLB meetings, and to other high-profile organizations or audiences with top management executives.

In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
1. Knowledge of an engineering or scientific discipline, or radiation protection or QA principles, and demonstrated ability to conduct and lead multi-disciplinary inspections of NRC licensees, certificate holders, vendors, and suppliers.
2. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
3. Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with peers, co-workers, and various levels of management both inside and outside the agency.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a complex project: development, coordination, review, scheduling, etc.
Specialized Experience is defined as knowledge of overall engineering or scientific principles related to the safety inspection activities in the area of procurement, design, fabrication and use of nuclear material transportation packaging and/or spent fuel dry cask storage systems.
Additionally, knowledge of QA programs as it applies to designers, fabricators and users of transportation packaging and spent fuel storage systems.
