JOB TITLE: Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Youth Sports)

INTRODUCTION:
The primary function of the position is to serve as the Assistant Youth Sports Director of a multi-mission fitness, recreation, and sports program aboard a Marine Corps installation. The position plans and coordinates sports and fitness program in order to stimulate youth to participate in and experience a variety of ongoing activities that will improve and maintain their physical well being and promote good lifetime health maintenance skills. The program serves a diverse population of active duty, reserve, and retired military, their family members, civilians, and other authorized customers to include the local national community in and around the installation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in supervising a diversified program by planning, organizing, and coordinating a comprehensive youth fitness/sports program. Supervises a diverse workforce of multinational demographics (NAF, IHA, Contracted Labor, and Volunteers) as a regular and recurring part of the assignment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting in the supervisory oversight of Youth sports major and minor events, team sports, equipment, and program operations for a large overseas area encompassing seven geographically separate and distinct housing areas island wide, with a participant population of over 2,500 youth, ages 5-18.
Interprets and implements operational program goals and objectives as relayed by the Youth Sports Director to the subordinate workforce and assists in the organization and accomplishment of assignments. Identifies and solves operational and personnel related problems. Delegates assignments and deadlines to subordinates based on the Youth Sport's Directors instructions. Trains or arranges for the training in areas of First Aid/CPR/AED, fire safety, physical security, customer relations, equal opportunity, sexual harassment policies, hazardous materials, government driver's license, mandatory annual training, field and grounds recreation, and other developmental instruction as needed.
Reviews and approves schedules for employees to ensure adequate coverage of office and facilities in accordance with established staffing criteria. Approves various types of leave in the absence of the Youth Sports Director. Assists the Youth Sports Director in assessing and resolving attendance, performance and/or conduct issues of subordinates. Resolve simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others, such as formal grievances and appeals, to the Youth Sports Director. Reports and briefs the Youth Sports Director on team and individual work accomplishments, program issues, and progress in work assignments. Assists in supervising the workforce in identifying its strengths and weaknesses, and assists in providing supervision and guidance to the workforce in exploring alternatives and determining what solutions to implement.
Informs subordinates of available employee benefits, services and work related activities. Submits nominations and/or personnel action requests to the Youth Sports Director for individual and/or team awards, recognition, reassignment, and promotion. Evaluates performance, conducts appraisals on subordinates and submits the evaluations to the Youth Sports Director for approval.
Assists in identifying and providing input requirements for annual NAF budgets to include the expenditures required to conduct a sports programs with supporting data for inclusion in overall program formulations. Ensure sufficient equipment (according to Marine Corps standards) and supplies are available to provide a comprehensive program. Prepares and submits to Youth Sport's Director purchase order requests for supplies and equipment to support program operations. Prepares required after action reports, season tournaments standings, sports Official usage reports, and such other occasional reports as required by the Youth Sports Director.
Assists in carrying out programs and activities (sports and recreational program which includes sports programs, special events, instructional programs, and professional instruction) for the appropriate and interested population.
Reviews by-laws relative to the eight different age divisions and five different sporting seasons such as Basketball, Cheerleading, Soccer, Baseball, and Softball. Ensures that programs are properly organized and supported to maintain a high level of patron satisfaction and encourage their long-term participation. Displays positive and professional interactions with customers.
