The Southeast Regional Office Director reports to the Chief Public Engagement Officer in overseeing the Southeast regional office (Atlanta Georgia) and is the most senior ranking official representing the USPTO at that location.
As a part of the USPTO Senior Executive Service (SES) cadre, you will be among a group of highly skilled executives, contributing to one of the important missions in the federal government. Also, as a Regional Office Director, you will be part of the agency's senior level executive team known as Management Council.
Atlanta is one of the most dynamic cities in the country, boasting a vibrant and diverse culture of innovation and entrepreneurship second to none. The Atlanta community, a blend of rich cultural history and modern urban progress, is home to a variety of important stakeholders, such as academia/R&D, corporations, independent inventors and entrepreneurs. This city was selected as the agency's Southeastern presence to assist USPTO in its mission to place important innovation and intellectual property resources closer to stakeholders.
The Southeast Regional Office is located in Atlanta, Georgia, and serves a hub of education and outreach. The Regional Office Director will facilitate, coordinate and lead high level engagements with stakeholders related to Intellectual Property and the innovation ecosystem at the local, state and Federal levels. The Southeastern Region includes Georgia and nearby states.
As Regional Office Director, your role will be vital to the Agency's mission of accomplishing its strategic goals. The Regional Office Director is responsible for supporting activities and efforts in the region that promote and protect intellectual property rights, and incentivize innovation from stakeholders such as individual inventors, small/medium/large corporations, start-ups, entrepreneurs and venture capital, among others, including in and from traditionally under-resourced and/or under-represented communities.
The Regional Office Director will collaborate with other executives within the USPTO to support activities designed to drive inclusive U.S. innovation and bring more ideas to impact, especially in key technology areas. The Regional Office Director also plays a key role in employee engagement and connecting with remote employees in the region.

There is no higher-level education requirement for this position.
Probationary Period: You will be required to serve a one-year probationary period unless you previously completed the probationary period in the SES.
Mobility: Organizational and geographical mobility is essential in developing and managing SES leaders and generally is a key to advancement. Therefore, applicants are expected to be mobile and once appointed SES members may be reassigned at the discretion of the appointing authority. This is a Non-Bargaining Unit position. This is a Public Trust position and has a risk level designation of "high" risk.
