ALL U.S. CITIZENS. DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: These positions will be filled using Direct Hire Authority for this occupation. CTAP and ICTAP candidates in the local commuting area.
Incumbent serves as trained and experienced member of a wildland fire module or hand crew or engine crew executing fire management activities in fire preparedness, fuels management and prevention, and fire suppression, monitoring, and post fire activities. Specific specialty areas of work within fire modules or crews include fire engine operation, fire management planning, fuels management, and prevention. Work may also include all hazard and emergency response activities. Work activities include gathering and considering information on weather data, topography, fuel types, and fire behavior in responding to wildland fire incidents. Implements tactical directions on attacking, controlling, or mopping up fires, building or patrolling firelines, cleaning up burned areas within firelines, suppressing spot fires, felling snags or trees, and cutting brush. May drive and operate a wildland fire engine, positioning the engine for proper use and operation. Conducts tree felling and chainsaw. Maintains and/or coordinates and ensures maintenance of equipment and various hand tools such as shovels, Pulaskis, and McLeods, water hose, and backpack pumps. May be required to operate light vehicles and 4X4's.

These are permanent full-time seasonal career/conditional appointment. The incumbent will be in pay status at least 13 pay periods (26 weeks) or more depending on funding & workload not-to-exceed 25 pay periods (50 weeks) per calendar year. Services will not be required at certain times due to lack of work/funds, weather conditions, ceiling limitations or other unforeseen circumstances & will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
