To be eligible for conversion to the Economist, CG-0110 position, interns must complete 640 hours of work experience (up to 320 hours may be waived based on successful performance in the position and a 3.5 overall GPA or membership in a national honor society); meet the OPM qualification standards for the Economist position, including positive educational requirement, which includes a minimum of 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
To be eligible for this program, applicants must: (1) be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree seeking program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis; (2) have a major in economics or a related field; (3) have a minimum cumulative (overall) GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0; and (4) be in good academic standing.
Eligible applicants may qualify for this position based on education, experience, or a combination of education and experience. Education and experience requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
Education: Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
Qualifying Experience: CG-09: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level.
Specialized experience is experience using economic principles and research methods for models in finance, statistics, or economics; organizing data for effective presentation; or researching, gathering information, and compiling data pertaining to the financial services industry, financial markets, FDIC-insured commercial banks and thrifts, and national, international and regional economic developments.
Combination of experience and education: Have graduate level education as described above, beyond the 1st full year of graduate level education and specialized experience as describe above that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

Interns will be offered a salary at the base pay for the grade in which they are qualified and selected: $75,330.
The applicants selected will be offered an excepted appointment not-to-exceed 1 Year. After successful completion of the program requirements and based on FDIC's needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent position based upon an evaluation of performance, completion of at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program, and a skills assessment. However, service in the FDIC Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.
