Duties
The Deputy Director, Nuclear Technology Division is also responsible for assisting the Director, Nuclear Technology Division in coordinating and managing the day-to-day operations of the division in a manner that allows the Director to focus on longer-term programmatic improvement initiatives.
When providing assistance to the Director as needed, the Deputy Director will be responsible for all aspects of radiation protection
and radioactivity associated with the Naval Reactors Program, as well as all aspects of chemistry control and cleanliness for both reactor plant and steam plants used in Naval nuclear-powered ships and prototypes.
The Deputy Director has primary responsibility for all stewardship and other Nuclear Technology Division responsibilities associated with U.S. naval nuclear propulsion technology agreements with foreign governments.
Directs and coordinates all work on radiological controls, radioactive waste disposal, emergency planning, radiation shielding, environment, health and safety, reactor plant chemistry, steam plant chemistry and reactor plant decommissioning and disposal under the cognizance of Naval Reactors.
Serves as the recognized senior technical advisor in all aspects of divisional responsibilities. Serves as senior technical consultant and provided direction, leadership, guidance, and advice to Division personnel in their interactions with ships, shipyard, prototypes, field offices, and other agencies.
Drives and champions innovation with the Naval Reactors Headquarters organization and across the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program activities to improve execution of nuclear work to expedite completion of major maintenance availabilities, reduce crew burden and increase operational availability of nuclear-powered warships and critical training platforms.

Education
801 - Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
