The National Assessment Governing Board is hiring its next Deputy Executive Director, a key leader responsible for implementing the Governing Board’s strategic goals and Congressionally-mandated responsibilities to oversee The Nation’s Report Card.
The Deputy will join the Governing Board team at a crucial juncture: the nation’s schools and students have been through unprecedented disruptions due to COVID, and The Nation’s Report Card (also known as the National Assessment of Educational Progress or NAEP) provides the most comprehensive, nationally representative measure of academic progress—for the country, for all 50 states, and for large urban school districts.
The Governing Board is also undertaking an ambitious agenda of innovation to chart the course for the future of NAEP. The Deputy will have the opportunity to lead this portfolio of work for the Board, establishing policy priorities for the future of The Nation’s Report Card.
The Governing Board was created by Congress in 1988 as an independent, nonpartisan board to set policy for The Nation’s Report Card. Board membership is diverse and non-partisan, comprised of 26 members who include governors, state and local school officials, educators, parents, researchers and business representatives.
For further information on what we do, please see www.nagb.gov. More specifics on the Governing Board’s responsibilities can be found in the NAEP Law.
